WHAT IS A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

A hair transplant is a procedure that involves transplanting hair follicles from one area of the head (called the “donor area”) to the thinning area (the “recipient area”). Healthy full-size vigorously growing follicles are moved from the donor scalp to thinning areas to increase the density of growing hair.

HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURES

You can learn more about FUE and FUT, the two primary surgical methods for the excision and transplanting of hair follicles.

FOLLICULAR UNIT EXCISION (FUE) TRANSPLANT

The FUE is a minimally invasive hair transplantation technique in which follicular unit grafts (containing 1 to 4 hair follicles) are individually removed from the patient’s donor area and then individually transplanted to the recipient area. The restoration technique creates a hairline that looks completely natural and undetectable. There are no stitches required there is no linear scar. Your donor area will be virtually undetectable within just a few days.

FOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTATION (FUT)

This procedure involves removing all of the grafts as a group from the back of the head from which the donor hair follicles are extracted. The follicles are then individually transplanted to the recipient areas.

Depending upon the size and shape of the donor area and the demand for grafts, FUT may be the preferred method of graft extraction. However, the extraction process leaves a narrow linear scar on the back of the head. Since the scar will be thin, it’s easily concealed by all but the shortest of haircut styles.

FUE VS. FUT HAIR TRANSPLANTS

If you’re just starting your research into hair transplantation, you’re probably wondering about the difference between an FUE and an FUT. While these procedures are similar, and both offer completely natural-looking results, there are some key differences to consider.

HAIR TRANSPLANT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How long do hair transplants last?
For the vast majority of patients, virtually all transplanted hair lasts a lifetime. In some cases, a small percentage of transplanted hair may be lost as the patient ages.

Q: Will a hair transplant hurt?
Although patients are administered local anesthetics and other medications, the degree of pain or discomfort experienced during or after the procedure varies according to the patient. We may supply patients with medication to use after the procedure, if needed. Many of our patients find that they do not need to take any medication at all after their hair transplant procedure.

Q: Is there any scarring from hair transplantation?
Whenever human skin is cut, it always heals by the process called “fibrosis.” This fibrosis (commonly known as scarring) is the skin’s way of healing. Thanks to the skill of our experienced hair transplant physicians, the healing sites in the transplanted areas are usually so small that the fibrosis is virtually undetectable. The scar in the donor area is covered by your existing hair. The hair transplantation procedure is designed to produce a very natural look. In the great majority of cases, the micro-technologies currently used at Panache make the restored hairline virtually undetectable.

Q: How many hair transplant procedures are necessary?
The number of procedures necessary to achieve a personally desired goal varies from person to person and the individual degree of hair loss; but in our experience, the great majority of our patients want to have at least two procedures.

Q: How does Panache hair restoration differ from others I see advertised?
Panache can’t account for the work of others because we don’t know the exact protocols and specific technical variations that are used elsewhere. We can talk to you about Panache’s own hair transplant procedures and our artistry which emphasizes the natural variations in the texture and color of hair, the angles and directions of hair growth, and the size and shape of grafts. The artistry involved in combining these numerous variations significantly impacts the naturalness of the hair restoration results. Not every physician has the skill or training for this refined technique. Experience matters and Panache physicians have performed over 5000 hair restoration procedures. Panache is the trusted name in hair restoration. We invite you to come in to visit with us at no charge.

Q: I have a medical condition. Can I still receive a hair transplant?
Pre-existing medical conditions are always a concern of your doctor. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, please tell your Physician at the time of your consultation.
